Online dating was again in the public eye when ‘5 Live Investigates’ featured a woman who was scammed £100,000 after falling in love with a dating site user that claimed to be a US Army soldier who was a lone parent but was, in fact, a scammer.
At Find Me Dates we take scammers very seriously and want to highlight the continued work we do as a company to protect the public, your members from scammers. Along with recent developments to help tackle these issues, we have also introduced a Fraud Team. The team is focused on protecting members against scammers and fake profiles as well as introducing new security checks using systems produced by the in-house web development team. Having a dedicated Fraud Team has meant that the monthly scammer count has dropped by a staggering 165% from February 2010 to July 2010.
We are the only dating company in the UK to have a Customer Care and Moderation Team based in our UK HQ. It would save costs if we were to out-source this service, but having genuine members on our ever-growing database is paramount to the services that the company offer and by keeping our teams in-house, we are constantly working and developing ways to stop fraudulent behaviour. We owe it to our members to be able to offer them the safest possible environment and to be able to use and enjoy our product with peace of mind’.
In February 2010, a dedicated Moderation Team was formed as part of Customer Care to be responsible for reviewing all member profiles, 1st messages/ice-breakers/profiles/photos/videos and diaries before they go live on the sites. By using a moderation tool developed in-house, moderation time has dropped from an average of 12 hours per item to under 3 hours. A Fraud Team was also introduced.
